This body of work is about the humanistic perception of individuality + persona.
e-the-re-al. adjective.
“extremely delicate and light in a way that seems to perfect for this world.”
The presence of these paintings is not all the same. As each different human varies from one another, some are: gruff, dainty, melancholy, reserved, confident, simple, obnoxious, shy, humorous, rude, insecure, sultry, power-hungry, charismatic, intellectuals…
they are all representations of an entity.
en-ti-ty. noun.
“a thing with distinct and independent existence.”
Each one of these paintings is an individual, a someone that can be perceived and judged by the viewer, and I encourage you to do so. These are my portrayals, and my given names. Who they are and how they’re received, differs just like meeting someone new. This initial greeting is now a part of the artistic experience.
There’s an opportunity to be shared with these paintings, a way to further acknowledge the viewer’s perception. There’s this book, each with a page devoted to a painting’s given name.
Thank you for meeting all of them.
This was my BFA Concentration Series and was showcased at the DeVries Gallery in April of 2018.
